Education and career

Enrico Vito Perrino holds a degree in “Natural Sciences” at the University of Bari “Aldo Moro” (Italy) with cum lode. Subsequently he obtained PhD in Environmental Sciences, awarded by the "Italian Botanical Society" as the best doctoral thesis in Environmental and Applied Botany. He has many years of pre- and post-graduate work experience (1994-present) in the sector of Botany and Environmental Sciences with many university, the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (IAMB), the Institute of Agroecology and Biodiversity of Mannheim (IFAB), the MURST, the Ecology Department of the Apulia Region, the Ministry of the Environment, the Italian Botanical Society (SBI), the Italian Society of Vegetation Sciences (SISV), the National Park of Alta Murgia... He has also had similar experiences with many private research centres, operating in the context of initiatives and projects in several italian regions such as the management plans for protected areas. He has participated in numerous conferences and botanical explorations. He has a good knowledge of the English language and rudiments of Persian, having lived for about a year in Iran (1978-79). He has been an ordinary member of the SBI (Italian Botanical Society), since 2003, and of the SISV (Italian Society of Vegetation Sciences), since 2004. He has been registered in the register of graduate agricultural technicians of Bari since 2011. He is a member of the Council of the National College of Agrotechnicians Graduated since 2016. He is the author of over 170 scientific articles.

Since 2009 he has been an internal consultant for the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute (IAMB) in the context of research projects and some teaching programs. From 2017 to 2019 he was a consultant to the Ministry of the Environment (MATTM). Since March 2024 he is a associate professor at the University of Foggia (Italy)[1].

Research interests

Enrico Vito Perrino research focuses mainly on the vascular flora, especially those plants useful for human[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13], and also on vegetation and Habitat Directive 92/43 EEC of natural and semi-natural environments of Italy with particular attention to Apulia Region and Habitat Directive 92/43 EEC, especially of the Gargano[14][15][16] and some other mediterranean countries[17], dealing also topics on rare and threatened plant species analysis[18][19][20], Crop Wild Relatives[21][22][23][24],with some excursus on livestock load size and pabular species[25], phytoremediation[26], alien plant[27][28][29][30] and ecosystem services[31].

Enrico Vito Perrino classified 1 new plant taxa as new for science[32], described some new syntaxa for science, and revised the genus Aegilops in Italy[33].
