Aldo Zollo (born November 9, 1959, Naples, Italy) is Full Professor of Seismology and Digital Signal Processing at the University of Naples "Federico II"[1], where he obtained the degree in Physics degree in 1983. He has defended his PhD thesis in Solid Earth Geophysics (Seismology) at the University of Paris VII in 1990. In his research, he deals with theoretical and experimental aspects of seismic wave propagation and fracture processes of the Earth's crust that occur during earthquakes. He has been responsible for several research projects funded by national and international agencies in the areas of seismic exploration of volcanoes, the seismic source process modelling and the development of early warning systems for earthquake prevention.

Top Italian Scientist in Business Sciences [2]

He has been member of the National Group of Experts for the Evaluation of the Research for the “Earth Sciences” area (GEV04) in Italy (2011-2012), Member of the National Commission for Forecasting and Preventing Great Risks nominated by the President of the Council of Ministers (2012-2015), member of Scientific Councils of INGV (Italy) (2001-2010) and ISTerre (France) (2012-2014), Editor of the Geophysical Research Letters (Solid Earth) (2001-2007). In 2007, the President of the Republic awarded him the honor of "Commendatore della Repubblica Italiana" for scientific merit.

Aldo Zollo is the Head of the Seismological Laboratory (RISSC-Lab,) at the Department of Physics of the University of Naples Federico II[3]. RISSC-LAB is composed of one full professor, five assistant professors/researchers, one lab-manager, four Post-Docs and seven PhD students from the Doctorate Programs in Geophysics of the University of Bologna and Seismic Risk of the University of Naples. RISSC-Lab has a consolidated international reputation in seismic data acquisition, analysis and modeling, including the kinematic and dynamic modelling of the seismic source, wave propagation, static and time-varying three-dimensional tomography and ambient noise analysis. In recent years, RISSC-Lab developed an outstanding expertise in Earthquake Early Warning, significantly contributing to the research in the field and to the development of specific software for regional and onsite applications, through the participation to research European projects (i.e., SAFER (FP6), REAKT, NERA and GEISER (FP7), EPOS (H2020)). It manages the Near Fault observatory ISNet (Irpinia Seismic Network), delivering associated data and products (seismic bulletin, earthquake parameters, etc.) to the Civil Protection and the scientific community. ISNet is the backbone of the Early Warning System under experimentation in Southern Italy since 2009.
