• 1982: Degree in Medicine and Surgery with honours from the Sapienza University of Rome.

• 1982/83: Winner (1st place) of the scholarship of the Ministry of Education for attendance at the School of Specialisation in Thoracic Surgery, Sapienza University of Rome.

· 1985: Winner of the Presidency of the Italian Council of Ministers’ Prize for Culture.
